The Coding Specialist I will work in collaboration with Primary Care, Urgent Care, Specialty Care, and Mental and Behavioral Health as well as with ancillary departments/locations/providers to review, update and release charges in a timely manner and to ensure correct coding, billing compliance and accurate and complete charge capture.

Responsibilities

• Assigns or verifies CPT, ICD-10 CM and HCPC coding and modifiers based upon documentation.  Ensures compliance with official coding guidelines. 

• Reviews and resolves edits for charges while following established policies and procedures to insure that all data elements are applied.

• Performs charge entry as needed and posts appropriate charges for the corresponding procedures

• Monitors charge capture volumes and work queues for assigned area or areas and acts as a resource ensure consistent and accurate charge capture. Works with clinic staff and providers regarding missing or unclear information.

• Works with Professional Billing team to resolve denials and claim edits for assigned areas.

• Queries Providers as needed and coordinates responses to Provider questions.

Requirements

• Coding Certification (CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or CCA) or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment required.

• High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).

• Requires 1 year of experience in coding and /or health care experience.

• Knowledge of ICD10, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.

• Working knowledge of CCI edits, healthcare insurance guidelines and other regulatory guidance.

• Prior use of an Electronic Health Record.

This is a 100% remote position. No travel to our Milwaukee location is expected.
