Job Description:
Reporting to the Local Immigration Partnership Administrator, the Outreach Officer facilitates conversations and engagement with key stakeholders to help inform and advance the initiative. This position works with a dynamic group of individuals who are passionate about topics such as welcoming communities, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in partnership with the Local Immigration Partnership of Renfrew & Lanark (LIP) and its supporting response programs, helping to achieve the project's contractual obligations. In addition, the Outreach Officer provides a high level of research expertise to the LIP's Project Administrator and community partners.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Acts as a point of contact for responding to public inquiries and providing community referrals; assists with researching subjects related to the project's operations.
Liaises, promotes, and delivers events and presentations; organizes meetings and community tours.
Assists in developing and maintaining partnerships with all stakeholders, including but not limited to economic development officers and municipalities, employers, organizations, educational institutions, and other levels of government to build local capacity, improve employment and relocation opportunities and facilitate open communication and coordination among partners.
Participating in LIP Council meetings; participating in appropriate professional development activities.
Providing functional assistance to the Project Assistant in the absence of the Project Administrator.
Representing the LIP at meetings in the absence of the Project Administrator.
The outreach and engagement component of the role is a necessary function for the project's success as well. The LIP project steers and reports on the results of the spin-off programs created in response to gaps identified through consultation. Skills to perform this portion of the role encompass baseline communication and marketing skills, research and data collection capacity, customer service and public relations, tool development, indicator selection, survey design and delivery.
A critical factor to success in the role is partnership and relationship-building capacity within the region and having a robust understanding of the rural communities the LIP serves. The Outreach Officer also performs additional office administration duties as required.
The Local Immigration Partnership program delivery is remote, but travel throughout Renfrew and Lanark Counties is a regular activity. A valid G driver's license and confidence driving on the highway and on rural roads is essential to this role. Occasionally, flexibility regarding working hours is required, where the Outreach Officer may need to work in the evening, on the weekend or early in the morning. It is critical that the successful candidate demonstrates the ability to self-start and maintains a workflow outside of direct supervision daily. Working from home is a likely normal state for the team.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum two (2) year diploma or equivalent in Humanities, Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Economics, or Economics;
Minimum of two (2) years experience in Public Relations or stakeholder engagement and academic research;
Full understanding of the rural community context of the specific region (Renfrew and Lanark Counties).
