The Department of Biology is seeking a short-term, part-time temporary Research Assistant to support a grant-funded project investigating anti-staphylococcal compounds produced by microbial pathogens. This temporary position is for approximately 20 hours per week, spread over 4–5 days, and is available for the summer term only (May–July 2025). The technician will conduct independent experiments, analyze and interpret data, and collaborate closely with other lab members and the Principal Investigator (PI).
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:
Conducting independent research on microbial interactions related to cystic fibrosis pathogens
Maintaining a clear and complete, accurate lab notebook
Generating and analyzing data for manuscripts and grant applications
Preparing media and solutions for laboratory experiments
Aiding in lab maintenance including inventory management and dishwashing as needed
Producing consistent weekly research outcomes through reliable lab work

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with BSL-2 pathogens
Experience in scientific writing
Experience in microbiological laboratory techniques including micropipetting, aseptic technique, microbial culturing, making media, sterilization techniques
Competencies
Basic understanding of biology and biological processes through college courses with grades of A/B in basic biology and genetics
Critical Thinking – ability to think through issues and identify appropriate options
Teamwork – ability to work with others, serve others, help others, lead others, mentor others, take directions from others in the interest of moving process and programs forward to the desired outcome
Organized – manages time effectively, keeps tasks appropriately prioritized
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
