Summary:
Provides direct patient care within scope of practice.
Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient’s family or significant other(s).
Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.
Position Responsibilities:
• The ER technician performs wound care (apply steri-strips, wound cleansing, wound irrigation, preparation for suturing, applying the dressing ordered by the physician post suturing), applying the appropriate orthopedic splint per physician order, burn care, eye irrigation, bladder scanning, crutch fitting and walking instructions, assisting with patient immobilization, and pediatric immobilization.
• Patient transport.
• ECG’s, toileting, bathing, patient rounds (same functions as the MST without Phlebotomy).
• Assists the ED physicians with orthopedic procedures (i.e. orthopedic reduction) and invasive procedures.
• Point of care testing i.e. I Stat, urine pregnancy, urine dip, and accu-checks. Maintain the logs and run controls.
• Maintains specialized equipment carts (central line cart, airway cart, suture cart, splinting cart, ENT cart, pediatric supply cart).
• Assists with setting up equipment for telenuerology, hypothermia, and CPR.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
BLS for healthcare provider or the ability to obtain within first month.
