Job Description

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer to join our growing Technology Financial Planning team with a passion for building, implementing and supporting financial planning systems. Our Senior Staff Engineer is a key member of the Technology Financial Planning engineering team working across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to the business and maintain the highest standards of solutions delivery and availability. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge and financial planning expertise, bringing the ability to help steer the strategy and implement best practices.

Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will:

  • Design, build, enhance solutions utilizing 3rd party financial planning systems (such as Anaplan, Board, Oracle EPM Planning, Hyperion, etc.) and in-house systems to satisfy business requirements for Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Collaborate with FP&A to define data needs

  • Incorporate data and dimensionality (such as product, region, etc.) into business solutions for detailed profitability financial analysis

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Technology teams to source the data

  • Create integrations solutions to/from 3rd party financial planning systems

  • Capture scope, create design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems 

  • ​Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 

  • ​Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle 

  • ​Lead in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization 

  • ​Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective 

  • ​Utilize programming languages like Python, Java, or other object-oriented languages, and database types like SQL relational, NoSQL, and OLAP

  • Utilize data tools such as Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Airflow, MS PowerBI, Jupyter Notebooks to extract, load, transform, report, and analyze information from financial data lake and transfer data to/from financial planning systems

  • Mentor other engineers  

  • ​Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams

  • Participate in Production on-call support 

Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience with implementations and support of financial planning systems such as Oracle EPM, Anaplan, Board, or Hyperion

  • Experience in creating financial planning models for FP&A based on historical trends and Machine Learning forecasting capabilities using tools mentioned above

  • Experience in supporting Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) departments providing systems enhancements and support to enable the creation of detailed budgets, plans, profit & loss statements, variance analysis, financial cost allocations, etc.

  • Understand revenue and expense analysis

  • Experience or understanding of data tools and solutions such as Apache Spark, Flink, Hive, Hadoop, Airflow, Iceberg, JSON, PowerBI, Jupyter Notebooks, or MS Excel to do financial data manipulation, analysis, and reporting

  • Solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices

  • Ability to communicate and work directly with business leaders across Technology and Finance

  • Strong understanding of accounting process and Management reporting philosophies to partner with senior Finance Leaders

  • Deep Finance domain expertise to be able to work with senior Finance Leaders to interpret their process and functional needs into system solutions

  • Ability to effectively communicate with various audiences (leadership, highly technical, and non-technical business partners)

  • Experience with project management, including the identification of milestone, due dates, and priority

  • Familiarity with application monitoring, scheduling, and orchestration tools

  • ​​Advanced programming experience with languages such as Java, Python, C#, or similar. Including object-oriented patterns and designs.

  • ​Understanding of microservices oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs 

  • ​Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems 

  • Must have advanced-level application design, database design (OLAP and Relational), implementation, and maintenance

  • Understanding of DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and tools 

  • ​Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automated testing

  • Understanding of security protocols and products: Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth

  • ​​Strong problem-solving ability 

  • Excellent comprehension, verbal, and written communication skills

Experience

  • 20+ years working within IT or Tech shops supporting and developing applications

  • 15+ years of Finance Systems experience with industry leading ERP solutions (e.g. implementing and supporting PeopleSoft; Oracle EBS; Oracle Cloud; Hyperion; Workday; or SAP)

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with Financial Planning systems, including system implementations, planning models, integrations, and providing system support to FP&A

  • 5+ years of experience designing and architecting solutions to support Finance business teams

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience


 

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
