Malware Research Center:

The CrowdStrike Malware Research Center (MRC) is at the core of Falcon’s malware detection and response capabilities. The team has a focus on understanding the threat landscape and sets the target for what Falcon should be identifying and preventing. Additionally, MRC is responsible for understanding our capabilities and mapping how well our machine learning and behavioral protection capabilities are doing against those threats. Where there is a gap, MRC takes action to improve our detection stance and improve our overall protection story. MRC works across CrowdStrike to ensure we are on target and provide the best protection for our customers.

 

About the Role:

The Software Engineer Intern will be a member of the Pathfinding team where we perform pathfinding research to enable bleeding edge technology development using innovation, prototyping and machine learning to support our flagship Falcon products.This role will support team activities by conducting dedicated research, formulating a plan of attack, then building the tools and scalable systems required for eventual usage by threat researchers, data scientists, and other teams within MRC and CrowdStrike. The software engineer is expected to be able to coordinate with leadership, plan, oversee execution of projects, problem solve, and demonstrate passion towards engineering excellence!

The Software Engineer Intern will work to define improvements to increase the efficacy of our products. Additionally, this role will conduct a deep dive into specific problem spaces, and will become an expert in understanding and subsequently formulating an opinion on how CrowdStrike should respond.

As the Pathfinding team is a centroid between multiple teams and products, good cross team collaboration skills are important. Clear, effective, and actionable communication of technical details is the key to success. 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Write proof of concept solutions in Python, Go, Rust, C++, C, etc.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams in various physical locations

  • Be a valuable, contributing member of the team!!

 

What You'll Need:

  • Formal training in one or more programming languages (C, C++, Python, etc.). This includes good coding standards, source control, documentation of design, issue tracking, and producing results which are supportable long term.

  • A rising junior, senior, or graduate-level student currently working towards a Computer Science/Engineering/Mathematics degree, graduating between December 2025 - June 2026

  • Willingness to learn. Technologies move quickly. The ideal technical solution may need some research and learning of new components. Openness to learning new languages and technology is key to success.

  • Understanding of cyber security methodologies, technologies, and best practices

  • Comfortable programming on a major operating system (Windows, Linux, or Mac)

  • Ability to express complex technical and non-technical concepts in verbal and graphical products

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with machine learning

  • Experience with threat research

  • Experience with MITRE ATT&CK Framework, techniques, and sub techniques

  • Knowledge of typical malware Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)

  • Some experience with building scalable solutions based on cloud technology
