What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking motivated and knowledgeable LAN/WAN Support Technologist! Our department provides COMSEC (Communication Security), the discipline of preventing unauthorized access to telecommunications. COMSEC protects both classified and unclassified traffic on voice and data networks. COMSEC Services are responsible for the operations and management of the STE and the ViPer (secure phones), including installation, troubleshooting, secure key management, annual asset tracking and audit support.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Operate and maintain LAN and WAN and all associated systems and network devices
  • Perform software upgrades, which may include building utilities and tools from source code
  • Perform hardware additions, changes, and upgrades
  • Configure, test, troubleshoot, and install secure telephones (STEs, ViPers) and encryptors
  • Track all accountable cryptographic equipment in the COMSEC Material Record (CMR) system
  • Manage all classified/unclassified physical and electronic cryptographic keys
  • Monitor the overall operation of the network and intervenes when bottlenecks or off-normal behavior occurs

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$72,800 - $140,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High school diploma plus 3 years of experience; or equivalent
  • Network experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting network switches and routers
  • An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Network experience with encryptors and training certifications
  • Network experience with Arista and Juniper equipment
  • Knowledge and experience communication security (COMSEC) cryptographic equipment
  • COMSEC certified (active certificate)
  • Certified STE and ViPer installer
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Work and Visio
  • COMSEC training

About Our Team:

Our department provides a world class IT infrastructure service for Sandia in support of their mission and national security. We provide modern telecommunications systems for data, telephone, and encryption capabilities to Sandia with emphasis on securing and protecting Sandia’s information, standardization, and reducing heterogeneity. We will provide these services in an effective and proactive manner, using customer support, applications, and the data necessary.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
