Part-Time Lecturer – DM2009 Performance and Interaction
The School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is seeking a highly qualified Part-Time Lecturer to teach DM2009 Performance and Interaction in the Interactive Media Programme. This undergraduate course will commence in August 2025.
Course Overview
This foundation-level course explores the history, aesthetics, and methodologies of live and performance art, focusing on interaction strategies that engage audiences and enhance performer capabilities. It examines performance art’s impact on society, politics, and the art world through cross-media interventions in public spaces. The course is open to students from diverse artistic and technical backgrounds, encouraging experimentation with interactive technologies through a multidisciplinary approach informed by architecture, performing arts, digital media, spatial interaction, anthropology, and aesthetics.
Students will develop critical and artistic skills, learning to apply interactive media technologies, spatial awareness, and site-specific strategies to create participative performance works. The course provides hands-on experience with physical computing, interaction design, and immersive media, focusing on real-time media manipulation in live performances.
Through a combination of studio practice, research, and collaborative projects, students will explore various performative spaces—from the body and stage to urban environments and digital platforms. Key topics include:
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate should have expertise in performance and interactive media arts with a strong understanding of live art, physical computing, and interaction design. A Master’s or Ph.D. in one of the following fields (or a closely related discipline) is required: Interactive/Media Arts, Multidisciplinary Arts, Media Art, Creative Technology, Performance Architecture, or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
Prior undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Media Art, or Creative Technologies, accompanied by significant industry experience, may also be considered in exceptional cases.
