Part-Time Lecturer for DM2002 Sound Art (Interactive Media Programme)
The School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is seeking a Part-time Lecturer to teach DM2002 Sound Art in Interactive Media Programme.
An undergraduate course will be commencing in August 2025.
Course Overview
The course explores sound as an artistic medium within multimedia art forms, covering its history, theory, and contemporary practices. Key topics include experimental digital music, acoustics, psychoacoustics, sound recording, editing, and interactive sound design for responsive installations.
The role involves guiding students in creating sound sculptures, installations, and multimedia works, including computer compositions ranging from electro-acoustic to experimental music. It also includes mentoring interactive sound projects while fostering creative experimentation, technical and experiential innovation, and exploring AI’s role in music composition and production.
Students will engage with industry-standard digital tools, and candidates should be proficient or familiar with any of the following: Ableton Live (with Max for Live), Max/MSP, Pure Data, Audacity, Reaper, TouchDesigner, SuperCollider, Unreal Engine (MetaSounds), etc.
Candidates should also have a strong knowledge of sound design, interactive media, and contemporary digital tools, along with experience in sound recording, editing, generative sound design, interactive audio, physical computing, and sound installations.
Requirements
Master’s and/or Ph.D. in any of the following or related fields: Interactive/Media Arts, Digital Music and Sound Art, Experimental Music, Media Art, Music Technology, Sonic Arts, Computational Arts, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Creative Technology, Immersive Media, or a closely related discipline. Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Media Art, or Creative Technologies, along with sufficient and relevant industry experience, may also be considered in exceptional cases.
