Job Summary:

In your pivotal role as Clinical/Translational Research Coordinator, you will work on an NIH-funded project that focuses on the speech motor impairment profiles of adults with dysarthria (PI Antje Mefferd). This project examines perceptual speech patterns and their underlying speech motor impairments of the lips, tongue, and jaw in patients with various neurological conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis).

This role is a 50% position, meaning you will work 20 hours weekly between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5 PM, Monday-Friday.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center has served Middle Tennessee and beyond since 1951. We diagnose and treat hearing, speech, language and cognitive problems that affect communication in adults and children. Our team of more than 100 experts includes audiologists, speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, occupational therapists, physical therapists and social workers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Dysarthria Classification Project

  • Recruitment of research participants through online portals (emails, contacting foundations and local support groups)
  • Conducting phone screenings
  • Scheduling research participants
  • Conducting data collections in the lab
  • Reconcile payments for research participants
  • Manage lab calendars and contact lists
  • Onboard new student research assistants
  • Perform data analyses of kinematic, acoustic, or perceptual datasets
  • Assist with literature reviews, manuscript and grant preparations
  • Manage IRB-related paperwork

  • Desire to work closely and productively with the PI and other lab members
  • Bringing a high level of attention to detail to all aspects of the role
  • Willingness to learn new skills (e.g., data collection and analysis)
  • Interest in research and desire to work in an academic research environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills
